Categorical Variables

• These are variables that fall into a category
• There is no order for categorical variables
• They are not quantitative variables

Ex

1)  HAIR COLOR
Hair color is the category
The variables inside a category are these variables

• Black
• Red
• Blonde
• Brown

2) GENDER

• Male
• Female
• Trans

ORDINAL VARIABLES

• These might look like categorical variables. However as they can be ordered they cannot be a categorical variables

       Ex:

       HOUSE PRICES

• low
• moderate
• high

QUANTITATIVE VARIABLES     

• We can perform mathematical function on these variables

      Ex:

• 1
• 2
• 3

        We can do 1+2+3 =6
