Scaling horizontally and vertically

In the above example we have a requirement to take 50 passengers from LA to Vegas in a bus of max capacity 25.


If we want to do vertical scaling then we would add extra 25 seats above the bus.
If we want to do horizontal scaling then we would use 2 bus with capacity 25

Horizontal scaling 
Means that we scale by adding more machines into our pool of resources.

Vertical scaling 
Means that we scale by adding more power (CPU, RAM) to our existing machine.
